The Kybalion: A Study of the Hermetic Philosophy of Ancient Egypt and Greece. This enduring occult classic has introduced countless readers to the magical and mystical teachings of Hermeticism. Walker Atkinson was one of or perhaps the sole author of the book. The seven principles are then examined in depth in their own individual chapters. The book is arranged around seven principles, which are the Principles of Mentalism, Correspondence, Vibration, Polarity, Rhythm, Cause and Effect, and Gender. Victor Lavalles The Changeling puts themes of POC heroes, parenthood, toxic masculinity, and online privacy in the forefront of this accessible horror book. It is only by understanding the truth of the cosmos that a person can understand their own true self. These truths have meaning to both the material world in its grandest sense and to the inner consciousness of each individual person. This universal creator then gave knowledge of universal truths to man and through a study of these truths of the physical world, great feats of science can be achieved and humans can reach their full potential. The philosophy of Hermeticism is based upon the teachings of the ancient Greek author and philosopher Hermes Trismegistus and posits that all life and truth flow from a single, universal creator. Originally published in 1908 by unnamed authors calling themselves the "Three Initiates" and published by the Yogi Publication Society in Chicago, Illinois, The Kybalion is a widely read and influential study of the principles of Hermeticism. Her DARE TO LEAD and UNLOCKING US podcasts have helped shape who I’m trying to be as a parent, friend, co-worker, and partner. I’ve been obsessed with Brené Brown in 2022. And yes, I went into “solving” mode right after learning that I should’ve instead asked her, “how can I support you?” □♂️ As I binged the series with my wife this past weekend, it helped stem meaningful conversations for us to practice “cognitive” and “affective” empathy listening techniques. Yet, her teachings are incredibly relevant in today’s “disembodied” reality. If this sounds like a self-help TED Talk, it essentially is one. And by the fifth and final episode, she provides a framework that will allow the audience to cultivate more meaningful connections with ourselves and others. In the show, Brené Brown builds on four solid episodes that each capture human emotion with the “empathy machine” (movie/TV). With that said, the above quote could easily be in ATLAS OF THE HEART. Instead, it was what I told my wife a few months ago when we started a new parenting strategy to teach my stepson responsibility. “I love it when a good framework yields results.” No, this is not a quote from Brené Brown’s new HBO Max TV series based on her book of the same name. Some of her novels for adults have been successfully reissued for the young adult market in recent years. And what better way to get children who can keep really big secrets, than to kidnap them! (After all, some children just plain need to be kidnapped.) Don't miss this wildly inventive and funny read from master storyteller Eva Ibbotson.Ībout the Author Eva Ibbotson, born Maria Charlotte Michelle Wiesner (1925-2010), was an Austrian-born British novelist, known for her children's books. What they need are a few special children who can keep a secret-a secret as big as a magical island. Illustrations.īook Synopsis When the kindly old aunts decide that they need help caring for creatures who live on their hidden island, they know that adults can't be trusted. About the Book Kidnapped by three kind but eccentric women who live on an uncharted island, Minette and Fabio realize that they actually prefer their new lives and enjoy participating in the elderly sisters' efforts to rescue creatures in distress. Please do not suggest fade to black books. Also, I don't mind the spoilers - I'd rather be glad for them so that I know what to expect and would I be interested. The more popular ones I've probably already read or didn't think they would interest me. So I would be very-very grateful if you could suggest me some books. I like when MCs are suprised of the attraction and confused what the hell is happening because they've been previously straight or smth like that. Only recently I discovered that there are some really good MM romances out there with rather villain-like/serious/bad-ass/masculine men. Too fast burn (I often DNF 'cause the couple gets together too fast and there isn't any interesting tension left). I want them to be reluctant of their attraction (!), to try to fight it, to have those explosive moments where they are arguing and the tension builds up and they start kissing and afterwards still have that reluctance and confusion over wtf just happened or too light in the way that the MMC isn't bad-ass enough - I'm really sucker for the "college king" theme) or not BDSM or dub-con stuff, but just not the la la la feeling with a lot of humor and zero sexual buildup and tension (however, there can be humor in the friend group). Too light (but I like more darker setting. There are many similar posts but somehow I've scrolled and scrolled and just don't have many books to read. Immortals’ Requiem is a Tolkienesque grimdark fantasy based in both a modern day city and vast supernatural worlds. The poem If by the India-born British Nobel laureate poet Rudyard Kipling is a poem of ultimate inspiration that tells us how to deal with different. But when Ada is dropped into his life, he discovers she is more than just a robot. The last thing in the world Alex wanted was an X5, the latest in realistic androids. From JONATHAN LUNA (GIRLS, THE SWORD, ULTRA, Spider-Woman: Origin) and SARAH VAUGHN (Sparkshooter) comes ALEX + ADA, a sci-fi drama set in the near future. Alex + Ada is an American comic book series created by Jonathan Luna and Sarah Vaughn. Vaughan's Saga or anyone who loves a good sci-fi tale will find plenty of thought-provoking stuff here." - Booklist "Luna's artwork possesses a beautiful simplicity that reinforces the importance of the characters to the narrative." - Library Journal From JONATHAN LUNA (GIRLS, THE SWORD, Spider-Woman, ULTRA) and SARAH VAUGHN (Sparkshooter) comes ALEX + ADA, a sci-fi drama set in the near future. Luna's spare illustrations match the plot perfectly, particularly his ability to bring nuance and feeling to faces rendered in a very simple style. "Though this is a fairly classic sci-fi story line, Luna and Vaughn's sensitive plot and careful pacing keep it exciting, especially as they strip away preconceived notions and use the tale to examine the complexities of what it is to be human. Everyone wants to be famous, and Aya is prepared to do almost anything to bring her face rank up from 451,369, a number so low, she’s a total nobody. Whoever is getting the most buzz gets the most votes and the highest rank. The world is like a gigantic game of American Idol. As Tally did, Aya has some problems being a fifteen-year-old ugly, but this new world is filled with new technologies and new challenges as well. Set a few years after the end of Specials, Extras follows a new girl, Aya Fuse, in a new town. Tally's decisions lead her on an incredible journey, which forces her to grow, change, and learn. Living in a future where sixteen-year-olds are surgically transformed from "uglies" to "pretties," Tally Youngblood struggles with a choice: to become beautiful and content forever living in a high-tech paradise, or to leave the world she knows and keep her own identity. This framing technique is more than just a useful device for decoding gender and genre it's also quite fun. Attebery uses cultural theory to play the kind of "what if" game so near and dear to the collective heart of the SF community. " Decoding Gender's greatest strength is its methodology. Highly recommended." Lisa Yaszek, Extrapolation The concluding chapters convincingly demonstrate why these multiple histories matter.he has given us a way to see them more clearly. Attebery's wide-ranging but judicious use of feminist theory balances especially nicely with his detailed analyses of individual SF texts both, in turn, provide fresh perspectives on SF history-or, more accurately, on SF's multiple histories. " Decoding Gender addresses issues in powerful ways through its nuanced exploration of both masculine and feminine SF writing traditions. Fair-minded and vastly tolerant, knowledgeable in every field of science fiction and fantasy, writing with vitality, clarity, and humor-he has given us a work that will engage and reward both the scholar and the interested lay reader." Ursula K. "Brian Attebery is wonderfully fitted by nature, training, and experience to take on the complex subject of this book. |
